The 8-3 Sea-Hawks are travelling this weekend, heading to UNB to take on the Varsity Red's for a three game weekend. The Hawks look to keep up their recent dominance having won seven in a row coming into this matchup against struggling UNB squad.
Last weekend saw Memorial climb further toward the top spot in the AUS, moving into second place just behind Dalhousie. Strong play from their MVP Jill Snow complimented by the team's stellar defense of late have them rolling as they head into their first road trip of the second half of the season.
While their recent play has given those around the team plenty of reason to be happy, coach John Slauenwhite made it clear that his team knows what the ultimate goal is. He praised his team, but also added that there is still room to improve: "The wins' inch us closer to securing a play-off spot. We showed signs of greatness, but also struggled at times on serve receive." Slauenwhite echoed the sentiment of many around the team. The expectation is to contend for an AUS title and a team this talented is not going to settle for less.
While the Sea-Hawks are rolling, it will be vital to take UNB seriously this weekend. Despite their 0-10 record, UNB is always a tough opponent at home. They are well coached team that could no doubt catch the Sea-Hawks off guard if they come into this one taking them lightly.
Look for the Sea-Hawks improve the aforementioned service reception, and continue their great defense at the net. In the contests last weekend, Sarah Dawe and Catherine Ducey were extremely effective at the net and coach Slauenwhite is no doubt hopeful that trend can continue going forward. The games are Friday at 7:30, Saturday at 6:30, and Sunday at 12:30, and you can catch them all on AUStv.ca
