The Memorial Sea-Hawks women's volleyball team heads to Nova Scotia this weekend to participate in preseason action hosted at St. Mary's University. The Sea-Hawks first game action will begin on Friday night versus the Saint Mary's Huskies, followed by games against Durham College and Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday and Sunday.
This season the team returns a strong core of athletes from last year's run to the AUS Championship match. AUS MVP Jill Snow is returning for her fifth and final season as a Sea~Hawk. Snow has worked extremely hard this summer to compete for another chance at winning the AUS final.
The Sea-Hawks will be missing fifth year standout and team captain Krista Hogan, but have hard hitting second year Sarah Dawe waiting in the wings to fill that role. Also, some new additions to this year's squad will add depth in a few positions. First year middle Sarah Calkin, as well as fourth year libero Kassie Menzies are two key players to watch leading up to the start of the season.
Sea-Hawks head coach John Slauenwhite looks forward to the weekend ahead as his team prepares for the upcoming season.
"We are excited to start our first weekend of exhibition competition this weekend in Halifax. The weekend will give us an opportunity to try some new things we have been working on as a program, try some different line-ups, as well as compete with a few top caliber programs."
The Sea-Hawks finished last season as the second place team in the AUS standings, eventually losing to the Dalhousie Tigers in the AUS Championship game.
