Memorial cross country runners Jade Roberts and Levi Moulton have punched their tickets to the USPORTS Cross Country National Championships in Kingston, Ontario on November 9th with their performances on October 25th at the AUS Championships.
Roberts is coming off a 1st place finish in the Women's 8km AUS Championships in Fredericton with a time of 30:23.0. After taking time off from cross country after graduating, Roberts has returned to Memorial this season and has had a great comeback season. When asked about her success, Roberts said "It's amazing, I raced cross country three years ago, and I finished my degree and took a couple of years off, and I came back. It's kind of like a big redemption, back then I was way back in the pack & now this time I came around and I'm a champion. It just shows that hard work can really pay off." Roberts is not a stranger to success this season, with a 4th place finish at Acadia on October 5th as well.
Moulton finished in 5th place at the Men's 8km AUS Championships on October 26th, with a time of 25:58.0, which helped him qualify for the USPORTS National Championships. Moulton has also had success this season for the Sea-Hawks, finishing in 7th place at the St. FX Invitational on September 21st and also taking 3rd place in Wolfville, Nova Scotia on October 5th.
Joining the Hawks as they travel to Kingston is coach and local running legend Colin Fewer. Fewer has won the Tely 10 road race for the past 4 years, and 5 in the past 6. He has won the Tely 10 a total of 12 times in his career with his best time being 49:41 in the 16km race in 2017. He will look to pass along the knowledge and wisdom that comes with his illustrious running career to Moulton and Roberts as they hope to compete in the National Championships.
Moulton and Roberts will have to be on their toes on November 9th, as they will be facing the best collegiate cross country athletes in the country. They will follow the advice and guidance of Fewer as they both try to have success and place high in the standings at the event.
