Sea-Hawks Head to Halifax for Weekend Series

The Sea-Hawks (2-0-0) hit the road for the first time this season where they will face both the Dalhousie Tigers and the Saint Mary's Huskies.

Last weekend the Sea-Hawks were able to find success in a two-game matchup versus the Mount Allison Mounties, they were victorious by scores of 2-1 and 2-0 at the King George V Park in St. Johns. Sea-Hawks midfielder Lauren Taylor was the catalyst for the team's victory in their home opener, earning player of the game honours for her ability to control the pace of the game with her great 1v1 battles and work effort. Her overall contributions last weekend was enough to earn her the Memorial Female Athlete of the Week. Other notable performances from this past weekend include the Sea-Hawks leading scorer Katie Joyce (1G, 1A) and goalkeeper Olivia Kearley who made 4 saves over the weekend, including a clean sheet in Sunday's match.

The Dalhousie Tigers (1-0-0) entered the season as the #1 ranked team in all of the AUS, and they carried that reputation in their first game of the season versus the UNB Varsity Reds, where they emerged victorious by a score of 2-1. Led by goals by Kaitlyn Woodworth and Chloe Richardson, and a tremendous effort from their goalkeeper Annabel Gravely who stopped 5/6 shots her way was enough to start the Tigers season off in the win column.

Ranked as the 8th team in the AUS according to the pre-season polls, the Saint Mary's Huskies (0-0-2) had a tough couple matches to start the season. First off, the Huskies lost their opening match 7-2 to the #2 ranked Cape Breton Capers, markers in that game were scored by Anna Erikson and Jenna Lileikis. Saint Mary's would then drop their next match to the #3 ranked St. FX X-Women by a score of 5-1. Despite the final scoreline, this game was closer than it seemed, the Huskies were only trailing 1-0 at halftime but seemed to run out of steam as the game progressed.

Despite starting off the season undefeated, don't expect the Sea-Hawks to lose focus heading into two tough matches this weekend, Head Coach Mike Power praises his team's preparation for this weekend "The girls have been training diligently as we prepare for 2 tough tests this weekend in Dalhousie and Saint Mary's – both teams have improved since we last had a season in 2019".

The confidence that the Sea-Hawks gained from last week's sweep should give them a boost as they face a highly regarded Tigers team and a Huskies team that will be fully energized, looking to rebound from last weekend. They will take the field against the Dalhousie Tigers at 1:00 PM ADT on Saturday and will conclude their weekend Sunday when they face the Saint Mary's Huskies at 12:00 PM ADT.
