The Memorial University Seahawks women's basketball program is pleased to announce the commitment of 5'11 forward Mira Eaton of St. John's. Eaton currently attends Holy Heart of Mary High School and was a member of Team Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2025 Canada Games. Mira is also and member of the Seahawks High Performance program.
A versatile forward known for her toughness and competitiveness, Eaton will bring size, rebounding, and defensive intensity to the Seahawks when she joins the program next season.
For Eaton, the opportunity to represent her hometown university made the decision an easy one.
"I chose Memorial because there's nothing better than getting to play for your home team in a gym surrounded by friends and family," said Eaton. "I've always wanted to go to MUN for the academics but now that I've been given the opportunity to play basketball, it adds a whole new level of excitement for next year."
Eaton is looking forward to continuing her development at the U SPORTS level while remaining connected to the basketball community she has grown up with.
"I'm most excited that I get to keep developing as a player at the next level while also continuing playing with some of my best friends that I've made throughout my career," she said. "The energy that I've observed from the team and their chemistry is something that I cannot wait to be a part of."
On the court, Eaton prides herself on the effort areas of the game and believes her work rate will allow her to make an immediate impact.
"Rebounding and defence are my strongest attributes. I will always work my hardest on both ends of the floor and I think I can be of value to the team based off my hustle and competitiveness alone. Along with the help from the coaches to develop my offensive game, I think I can contribute a lot to the team."
Seahawks head coach Mark English is excited to welcome Eaton to the program and believes her mindset and work ethic will make her a great fit.
"Mira is a player who brings a tremendous work ethic every time she steps on the floor," said English. "She is extremely coachable and has a real desire to improve her game every day. Those qualities, combined with her size, rebounding ability, and competitiveness, make her someone we believe can develop into a very impactful player in our program."
