Memorial Battles for Playoff Spot

Memorial Battles for Playoff Spot

The Memorial Sea-Hawks and the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus played to a 3-3 draw Friday evening at King George V Park.

A crucial game for both the Sea-Hawks and Aigles Bleus as both teams were battling for a spot in the top-6 of AUS standings and a playoff spot. The home team opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Sea-Hawks midfielder Matt Davis found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Just 20 minutes later, the Sea-Hawks extended their lead to two goals, thanks to a great effort by forward Jacob Grant off a pass from Brent Hennebury, good for Grant's 5th marker of the season. The Sea-Hawks appeared to be in the clear, until the Aigles Bleus found their game in the second-half, where they would come surging back.

Down 2-0 and clinging to their playoff hopes, the Aigles Bleus would give it their all second half and would eventually come all the way back. The Aigles Bleus would reply in the 70th minute on a goal by star forward Georges Musitu, his team-leading  8th goal of the season. Miraculously, the Aigles Bleus would eventually take the lead in short succession, scoring in the 77th minute on a Felix Robichaud tally, quickly followed by a strike in the 85th minute once again by Musitu, to put the Aigles Bleus up 3-2 with less than 10 minutes left. Then minutes later, centre back Cabhan O'Keefe would fire home his first goal of the season, and the biggest of the Sea-Hawks season to tie the game in the 90th minute.

The player of the game award went to the Sea-Hawks Cabhan O'Keefe, who's goal near the end of regulation keeps the Sea-Hawks well within the playoff race.
