The Memorial Sea-Hawks (2-3-1) men's soccer team returns to the confines of their own home at King George V Park this weekend as the host the UNB Varsity Reds (5-1-0) for a pair of games.
The Sea-Hawks currently sit in a tie for 4th place with the Saint Mary's Huskies and the UPEI Panthers, they rank 2nd In the AUS in goals-for with 12 thanks to the nation's leading goal scorer Emmanuel Dolo (8G, 1A), the forward has scored 8 times in his first 6 games on a nation leading 26 shots. Not to be forgotten, Sea-Hawks other star forward Jacob Grant (1G, 2A) has formed a formidable duo with Dolo, Grant's 3 points place him 2nd on the team and his 16 shots place him in a tie for 4th in all of the AUS. The combination of Dolo-Grant will be key for the Sea-Hawks if they want to walk away with two good results versus a strong Varsity Reds team. Despite some shaky results over the past two weeks, defender Alex Dolomount is confident the team can show their resilience "These 6 points against UNB this weekend are crucial and we're fully confident that we'll be able to go out and get them". Expect to see a fully motivated and resilient Sea-Hawks team take the field this weekend.
The UNB Varsity Reds currently sit second in the standings up to this point in the season with 5 wins in their first 6 games, their 14 goals lead all AUS teams and their +10 goal differential is significantly better than any other team. The Varsity Reds are led by their own dynamic duo of Grant Takacs (5G, 1A) and Tom Pheulpin (2G, 3A), both players at the catalyst for UNB's early success. The Varsity Reds have been really steady on the defensive end only allowing 4 goals so far this season, the play of their goalkeeper Louis-Charles Vaillancourt has been key to the few goals his team has conceded. Vaillancourt carries a strong 0.852 save percentage and 0.67 goals against average, plus an AUS leading 3 clean sheets. The surging Varsity Reds will be looking to continue their push towards the #1 seed in the AUS.
The two teams will take the pitch starting Saturday, October 2nd at 3:15 PM ADT, and Sunday, October 3rd once again at 3:15 PM ADT.
