The Memorial University Seahawks fly into Halifax on a blustery Sunday Afternoon for their second game of the weekend against the Saint Mary's Huskies. The Huskies last played Thursday evening, after earning a huge 3 points against cross town rival Dalhousie, in a 3-2 thriller.
Memorial struck first, off of the set up from a massive drop kick from Sea Hawks goalkeeper, Dylan Crichton (Torbay, NL), Emmanuel Dolo (St. John's, NL) was able to put his left foot on a bouncing ball for an easy score.
The remainder of the first half would remain scoreless, for a 1-0 match for Memorial at the half.
The second half of the match was an all-Huskies affair though, with SMU finding their rhythm in the latter part of the match, scoring three unanswered goals.
The tying goal of the game was scored by Ahmed Ibrahim in the 52nd minute, off of a cannon of a shot from the edge of the box, from the left foot of the Halifax native, being set-up from by a beautiful cross field pass from Woody Bain (Dartmouth, NS).
The second goal was scored by 5th year senior, and crowd favourite, Sumit Malik (Dartmouth, NS) in the 58th minute. Malik flashed some fancy footwork getting around a Memorial defender, and then blasted a left footed shot from 20 yards out, bouncing just off the inside of the post, and just barely over the line for the go-ahead goal of the match.
The final goal of the match was scored off of a PK by Cian Tousignant – O'Siadhail (Timberlea, NS) in the 64th minute of the match, after Matt Hargest (Kitchener, ON) of the Sea Hawks fouled Sean Freeman (Halifax, NS) in the box.
After 90-minutes of play, it was truly the tale of two halfs, with the Huskies coming away with the 3-1 victory, after an impressive show of firepower in the second half. Huskie's Defender Adam Dunsworth was named Subway player of the game honours for their strong play, patrolling the backline of the Huskies defense.
