The Sea-Hawks (2-0-0) enjoyed dominant performances last weekend over the Mount Allison Mounties to start the season off with consecutive wins.
Led by coach Jake Stanford, the Sea-Hawks looked great in its opening games, defeating the Mounties by scores of 3-0 and 6-1, led by a few impressive performances. In the Sea-Hawks opening 3-0 win, star striker Emmanuel Dolo was able to score all 3 goals for the home side, earning player of the game honours, while goalkeeper Dylan Crichton stopped 2 shots to pick up the clean sheet. The following game, Mount Allison came out of the gates like a house on fire, eventually jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. Following the goal, the Sea-Hawks replied quickly with goals in the 30th and 32nd minutes scored by Jacob Grant and Zachary Visser. Enter the second-half and the Sea-Hawks scored 4 more goals, 3 from the aforementioned Dolo, who once again posted a hat trick for his side and took home player of the game honours for the second consecutive match. Dolo was also awarded the Subway AUS player of the week for his efforts, he finished the weekend with 6 goals and 1 assist, good enough to place him first in the nation in goals and points.
Coach Stanford believes the team attacked really well in their opening series and is looking to continue that trend "We have to take what we did right this past weekend in attacking and continue forward". Obviously happy with his team's offensive performance, they were able to find the back of the net 9 times in their opening 2 matches.
First on the slate is the #3 ranked Dalhousie Tigers (0-0-1), who dropped their first match to the UNB Varsity Reds by a score of 1-0 despite outshooting the opposition 11-7. Tigers forward Luke Berryman was all over the pitch throughout the match recording a team-high 4 shots on target, definitely a player to keep an eye on this weekend.
On Sunday the Sea-Hawks will meet the #5 ranked Saint Mary's Huskies who dropped their first two matches by a score of 2-1 to both the Cape Breton Capers and the St. FX X-Men. The Huskies gave the Capers all they could handle in their first game, there loan goal was scored by Sumit Malik and their goalkeeper Jensen Brown made 11 saves in a tremendous showing. In their other match versus the X-Men, Cian Tousignant-Osia was able to score the lone goal and once again goalkeeper Jensen Brown was dynamite, once again making 11 saves.
The Sea-Hawks will face the Dalhousie Tigers at 3:15 PM ADT on Saturday and will finish the weekend Sunday with a game at 2:15 ADT versus the Saint Mary's Huskies.
