Sea-Hawks add OCAA all-star to men's basketball program for next season

(Apr. 17, 2015) The Memorial University Sea-Hawks will add a new recruit to their roster for the 2015-16 season. Daniel Gordon of Flemming College in Peterborough, O.N. will join the team after a successful two-year career in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA).

The 6'2" recruit will be pursuing a degree in business administration at Memorial. Known for his versatility, Gordon can play both point guard and shooting guard. In the 2014-15 season, he led the OCAA as well as the national Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) in scoring with 29.7 point per game, while also averaging 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Gordon received second team league all-star honours for his efforts.

The Ajax, O.N. native already has several connections to the Sea-Hawks program. A number of current players share the same hometown, and Gordon has been a teammate of Austin Chambers' on the Whitby Wildcats club team.

Memorial head coach Peter Benoite is excited to add Gordon to the program.

"Daniel has a proven ability to put the ball in the basket and score from the perimeter, which will make us much tougher to guard next season," explained Benoite. "He has good athleticism, good IQ and in addition to his ability to score, is very willing to move the ball and get his teammates involved. He will be a great addition to the team."

Likewise, Gordon is very excited to join the Sea-Hawks program, and believes that Coach Benoite can help him take his game to the next level. After touring the campus earlier this season, he is excited to move to St. John's and contribute to Memorial's athletics program.
