Season Summary
The women’s wrestling team battled through injuries all
season long. Senior Carla Bryant was joined by Jenelle Pike, and
rookies Victoria Ralph and Alisha Gainforth. At Concordia in
October it was Bryant who would take home a gold medal.
In January the team would travel to UNB where Bryant would forfeit
the gold medal match with a shoulder injury. Ralph, competing in
her first varsity wrestling meet turned heads with a gold medal at
the Open and also at the Eastern Canadian Juvenile Championships
that weekend. Jenelle Pike would also find the podium with a third
place finish.
The next meet was the CIS qualifier where Ralph continued her
promising start, pinning a UNB wrestler to take gold in her weight
class. Bryant qualified for CIS before forfeiting with the same
nagging shoulder injury. Pike would also qualify for CIS, taking
second place in her weight class. Gainforth took her first varsity
medal with a third place finish.
Injuries would limit the athletes at CIS as Pike and Gainforth
would be unable to travel to Calgary due to injury. Bryant and
Ralph would participate with both finishing sixth in their weight
classes.
