Sea-Hawks head to StFX for AUS Championships

The Memorial Sea-Hawks men's and women's cross country teams are on the road this weekend for the AUS Cross Country Championship in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.  The women will run a 6km race starting at 12:00pm local time on Saturday, followed by the men's 10km race at 12:45pm.

Memorial has had a strong season on the men's side with an early season win at Acadia and also hitting the podium at the Dal/SMU meet a few weeks later.  The women's team has also been progressing through the season and have hopes of a podium finish themselves this upcoming weekend.

The Sea-Hawks men's team will be lead by Matthew Power and Jordan Fewer, who will both be pushing for top 10 finishes to qualify for the U Sports National Championships in Laval, QC. Rounding out the men's team this weekend is Seamus Boyd Porter, Kyle McLeod, Zach Putt, Mike Scott, and Jacopo Fragasso.

"This is a solid team and if they can put forth a strong steady performance, it should put us in contention for a team medal." Says Head Coach Art Meaney.

The women's team will be led by Nicole Hollohan and Megan Ryan. Coach Meaney believes they are both ready to best races of the season.

"In the weeks prepping for the championships both have looked strong, fast, and poised to have big performances."

The women's team are hoping to push Acadia for the bronze medal this weekend.  Helping to accomplish that goal is Emily Hickey, Jenny Brace, and Victoria Healey.  Meaney believes that achieving that bronze is very attainable for this team.

"If they run to their full potential they could give the Acadia team a scare for the bronze medal.  They have trained hard and look ready for this weekend."

Race results will be posted on the AUS website as soon as possible following each race as well as Sea-Hawks social media pages.
