Sea-Hawks Waiting for Semifinal Opponent

The Sea-Hawks Women's soccer team will be heading Antigonish, N.S. to compete in the 2017 AUS Championship this weekend.

The Sea-Hawks (7-1-4) are coming off a strong showing at home last weekend where they achieved two wins against the Université de Moncton Aigle Bleus which saw them clinch a postseason bye directly to the semifinals of the tournament.

Perhaps the biggest challenge for the Sea-Hawks in their second round game is that their opponent is unknown at this point, so the team will have to prepare for the prospect of facing different teams with diverse and contrasting playing styles.

In regards to this particular situation Sea-Hawks coach Mike Power stated that the team is focusing on being strong and prepared, but that they will be keeping an eye on the games taking place this Thursday.

"We are focusing on ourselves this week but will be watching closely on Thursday. At this level the margins are very small so your opponent isn't necessarily the biggest factor. We'll be putting time and energy into ensuring we are the best possible Sea-Hawks we can be in order to try and get on the right side of those margins."

The Sea-Hawks finished the season in top form, playing well collectively, being incisive and clinical in front of goal, while solid and composed at the back. Striker Jessie Noseworthy recorded 10 goals, while goalkeeper Sydney Walsh led the league with 10 clean sheets.

Championship play is poised to be a very tight and contested affair as most teams have showed the capacity to be able to score goals and take points away from anybody. Only 2 points separated the 2nd ranked Sea-Hawks from the 4th ranked Acadia Axewomen.

The championships get underway tomorrow with StFX facing Acadia. The other quarter-final game will be pitting UNB against Dalhousie. The Sea-Hawks will be taking the field on Friday at 7:30pm (NST) to play against the highest ranked quarterfinal winner.
