The women’s volleyball opened 2010 with a win in front of the home crowd at the Field House. The Sea~Hawks played a back and forth match with the Universite de Moncton, but gained momentum late the first set to gain a quick two set advantage, on their way to a 3-1 set victory.


Sasha Wilkins once again led the charge for Terry Mosher’s team. Wilkins, the fourth year from Gambo, came up with some key plays, including a key over-the-head save in front of the Sea~Hawks bench that set up the clinching point of the first set.


The Sea~Hawks and Aigles Bleus traded points early in the second with the ‘Hawks gaining separation late on their way to a 25-22 set win and solid 2-0 set advantage.


Moncton would not quit despite the two set hole. Genevieve LeMay was big on the attack in the third set, which Moncton would win 25-16.


In the third set the Sea~Hawks would get strong play from Wilkins and Angela Peddle, as well as couple of late points from Jessica Crocker to seal the match. The win is the Sea~Hawks first of the season.


Wilkins had a team leading 14 kills and 15 digs. Beth Forsey has a match high 35 set assists. Peddle, the HITS FM Player of the Game for Memorial, added 12 kills. Moncton setter Veronique Carroll was the HITS FM Player of the Game for Moncton.

The teams will play the second game of the double header series tomorrow morning at the Field House at 10:00 a.m.
