Swimming teams hosting alumni and prospects this weekend

The Memorial men's and women's swimming team will be hosting a Alumni/Prospects Dual Meet at the Aquarena this Saturday at 4 p.m.

The meet will feature the current and former Sea-Hawks as well as the best up and coming swimmers in the province.


Women's Swimming Preview

Dayna HoganOn the women's side the team will feature many new faces this season. Fifth year Dayna Hogan, will provide Coach Brad Hutton with leadership and will have their sights set on CIS qualification in her final season for Memorial. Hogan has had an outstanding career so far, just missing CIS Championships and always racing at a high level at the AUS Championships in a wide variety of events. For a young women's team she will provide valuable experience after putting so much into the development of the program over the past four years.


Second year swimmers Lindsay Denine (Distance Free, IM), Jessica Noseworthy (Breaststroke), Mykala Pardy (Sprint Free), Sarah Tremblett (Sprint Free) and Victoria Tremblett (Sprint Free) will add depth to the women's team, hitting the water with more speed to start this season.


Adding to the team this year are rookies Jillian Doucet (Halifax), Laura Taylor (St John's), Samantha Tucker (St John's), Jenny Starks (Deer Lake), Morgan Lye (Mount Pearl), Emily Thompson (Wolfville) and Meaghan George (Deer Lake) who will be enhancing the competitive environment in practice. The large group of rookies and second year swimmers are pushing each other in training and are making each other faster already this year.


Men's Swimming Preview

The men's side will see a number of returning swimmers giving Coach Hutton a stable core and a competitive team that will have it's sights on competing in more final races this season.


Ryan AllenRyan Allen and Richard Hibbs will be back for their fourth seasons to lead the team this year. Sophomore backstroker Peter Gregory will also be pushing for the medal podium and CIS Championship standards after having a great summer racing at the Canadian Age Group Championships after having a year of AUS competition under his belt.


Brandon McKay will be returning for his second year of swimming the sprint breaststroke and butterfly. Veterans Mason Jeddore (butterfly), Tim Bennett (Backstroke), Brandon Billard (butterfly), and Matt Roberts (IM) will be adding depth to the team this season.


The men have a large group of rookies breaking through with the team this year. Rookie David Haines from CBS, had a great high school season racing at Eastern nationals and Canadian Age Group Championships in the backstroke events. David Roberts from Melville will be adding to the team in the sprint events and will be a factor at the AUS Championships. Mike Mather (St. John's), Marcus Carter (Port Aux Basques) and Ben Hiscock (Carbonear) will all be pushing to score points for the team at the AUS Championships this year.
