Swimmers headed to Dalhousie
The Memorial swim team will compete in their second university meet of the season this weekend at Dalhousie.
The young Sea-Hawks showed great improvements in November and will try to keep moving forward this weekend.
All five of the travelling swimmers are in their first year with the Sea-Hawks and have set the goal to score points (top eight finishes) in all of their events.
Sarah Tremblett and Mykala Pardy will lead the way in the freestyle events, both are racing the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m Freestyles.
Jenny Stark will be racing the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events as well as her first time racing the 200m fly as a Sea-Hawk.
Samantha Tucker will be focusing on the 200m and 400m IM as well as all three distances in the backstroke. Jillian Doucet is racing the sprint freestyle and backstroke events.
Veteran Ryan Allen is racing his top events and aiming to finish top three in all three breaststroke distances (50m, 100m, 200m) and the 200m IM.
Second year Brandon McKay is closing in on the CIS Championship qualifying standard in the 50m breaststroke and looking to medal in the 100m breaststroke, 200m freestyle and 100m freestyle events.
Rookie David Haines had an incredible November coming close to CIS Championship times in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events. He should be in the medal hunt in all three events. He will also swim the 50m and 200m freestyles.
Second year Peter Gregory has been getting better each week with great training. He will be looking to close the gap on the CIS qualifying standards in both the 100m and 200m backstrokes as well as swimming the 200m freestyle and 100m fly.
Rookies David Roberts and Mike Mather will be traveling with the team for the first time. Both are good sprinters, Roberts in the fly, backstroke and freestyle events and Mather in the freestyle and breaststrokes as they get their first feel of AUS competition.
The meet will run Saturday and Sunday with a 9am start time daily.
