Swimmers to race at Dalpex
The Memorial University swim teams will see their second interuniversity action of the season this weekend at Dalhousie’s AUS Invitational meet in Halifax.
On the women’s side the Sea-Hawks will be represented by Rebecca Dyer, Lesley-Marie Lahey and senior Dayna Hogan. Dyer and Hogan will both compete in 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle and 50m and 100m backstroke events. Lahey will compete in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m freestyles along with the 400m individual medley.
On the men’s side head coach Aaron Dahl will send 9 swimmers to the event.
Gavin Dyke, who came home with four medals at the first Dalhousie Invitational, will be a multi-medal threat for Memorial while talented backstroker David Haines is also a podium threat. Haines has a number of AUS medals to his credit.
Joining them will be Leo Froude, Ryan George, Peter Gregory, Brandon McKay, Richard Hibbs, and Nicholas Sparkes.
Coach Aaron Dahl feels this meet will be a chance for the athletes to show the work that they have put in during training.
He said, “Coming off of Christmas and some rather hard training I’m expecting to see the team swim close to their personal best times in some support events in preparation for AUS Champs in 3 weeks time.”
The meet will take place over two sessions on Saturday and Sunday at the Dalplex. Heats will begin daily at 10am and finals 4pm Saturday and 3pm Sunday. Live results are available through Swim Nova Scotia.
The meet will be the team’s final AUS tuneup prior to hosting of the 2014 Subway AUS Championship at the Aquarena from February 7-9.
