The Memorial basketball teams will tip off their 2012-13 AUS regular season with a road trip to Halifax where they will play the Saint Mary's Huskies in a weekend doubleheader series.
The new look Sea-Hawks will be heading to Saint Mary's this weekend looking to open the season in the win column against Saint Mary's.
The Sea-Hawks will enter the season with a veteran roster that should give Head Coach Doug Partridge plenty of options with his lineup.
In the post Ally Forsey will be counted on to lead the way. Forsey, a senior, has been a key contributor for her entire varsity career. She will need to avoid foul trouble, as the post is the team's thinnest position.
The Sea-Hawks boast a roster that has a number of different strengths at the wing and guard positions. Seniors Grace Fishbein and Kim Devison will be seeing major roles this season.
Partridge is entering his twentieth season at the head coach of Memorial this year.
Last season Memorial was 10-10 while Saint Mary's was 12-8. Last season they split their season series 2-2.
Saint Mary's will once again be lead by guard Justine Colley. Colley is a dynamic scorer who has been a first team conference all-star in all three of her years as a Husky.
Game times are 6pm Saturday and 1pm Sunday and are available on webcast via Saint Mary's Athletics
The Sea-Hawks men's basketball team will open the AUS season against the Saint Mary's Huskies this weekend.
Memorial Head Coach Peter Benoite has a number of new faces on the roster this season. The team has been working hard in training in anticipation of the season and are looking forward to starting the regular season.
The team will be looking for young players to earn bigger roles as the season progresses. Sophomore forward Caleb Gould will see an expanded role this season. Third year Theo Stanoev will also look to provide leadership to the team this year.
The team has some added size this year with two players on the active roster over 6'6. Rookie posts Drake Kinnunen and Chris Henderson stand at 6'7 and 6'8 respectively. Both players will need time to develop to the caliber of the university game but are showing signs of improvement.
The team has nine rookies on the roster this year including three red shirts. They also have four sophomores.
Last season Memorial had some success against SMU as they defeated Saint Mary's in the second game of their season at the Field House. However the Huskies took the season series 3-1.
Game times are 8pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday and are available on webcast at the Saint Mary's athletics website.
