Sea-Hawks compete in UPEI exhibition tournament this weekend
After opening their preseason with a weekend home sweep of Concordia, the women's basketball team will be taking part in 2012 Mickey Place Memorial Tournament hosted by UPEI this weekend. On Friday the Sea-Hawks will take on Ottawa at 2:30pm, Saturday they will take on UPEI at 6:30pm, and Sunday at 9:30am they will play Guelph University to close out the tournament.
This weekend will give the team another taste of CIS action along with a look at how UPEI is shaping up for another season of AUS action. Last season the Sea-Hawks hosted UPEI in a doubleheader weekend that ended with a weekend split. UPEI took the first game 77-73 and MUN claimed the second with a decisive 95-71 outcome.
Both the University of Guelph and Ottawa University should prove to be tough competition as they both have multiple OUA all-star award winners. For Guelph keep an eye out for second team all-star Jasmine Douglas and all-rookie team Kate McTavish. Ottawa University's lineup boasts first team all-star Hannah Sunley-Pasiley, second team all-star Bess Lennox, and all-rookie team members Kellie Ring and Maddie Stephen.
Coach Doug Partridge will continue evaluate his rotation at the tournament. In the opening exhibition action he received a good effort from Kelia Pond, Emily Jameson and Ally Forsey. Rookie Sandra Amoah also gave fans a glimpse of her athleticism against Concordia. Amoah should be a player to watch as she develops into a high quality university player in her rookie season. The Sea-Hawks will run with a deep roster this season that should give Coach Partridge multiple looks on both sides of the floor.
