SEA-HAWKS VOLLEYBALL SHOWCASED AT HOME THIS WEEKEND!

For the first time since the Men's Volleyball Interlock tournaments commenced in 2003-04, Memorial will play host to the Interlock Tournament, with Universite de Montreal, Universite Laval, Sherbrooke Universite, Dalhousie University and University of New Brunswick participating in the six team event. The November 25-26th event will also give the Sea-Hawks their first opportunity to play at home this season! The team is looking forward to lots of RED & WHITE supporters on the weekend, as the best volleyball action the province has seen in recent years will be on display. Fans are encouraged to bring along a teddy Bear on Saturday night as the Sea~Hawks will be hosting a Teddy Bear Toss for the Operation Toys for Kids campaign with CEP.

Memorial had a very groundbreaking weekend at Dalhousie this past weekend finding some points of their offence clicked. The team was able to identify their biggest weakness and should put that to rest in practice this week. Memorial matches up very well against Montreal and Sherbrooke, and for some reason, the team has always given Laval great matches. According to Head Coach Luke Harris "at Dalhousie, Andrew Stephens had an AUS all star type weekend, and Brad Jolliffe had a MVP performance". Blair Parsons also continues to be a bright spot for Memorial and has the ability to contribute significantly this weekend.

Memorial, UNB and Dalhousie will compete against all three Quebec teams and results are included in AUS standings.

The Dalhousie Tigers bring a mix of veterans and youth to the 2011-12 squad. Four seniors will lead the way in their final seasons as Tigers including fifth-years Graeme Higgins, an AUS all-star last year and Travis MacLean, the 2009-10 AUS Libero of the Year. Fourth-year players Daniel You, a CIS Top 8 Academic All-Canadian for 2009-10 and Angus Rhuland, who led the AUS in assists last year will also play strong leadership roles.

The UNB Varsity Reds took the AUS title last year, but has shown turnover in their roster and they recently split at series against Dalhousie. With 9 first and second year players, the Varsity Reds have plenty of youth, as they try to re-build toward championship form. Brett LeDrew from Clarenville is in his second year with the Varsity Reds.

Montreal is an extremely skilled and disciplined team. They are extremely talented in their setting and defence. Memorial should match up quite well with the Carabins, as they are not strong through the middle.

Laval is the 4th ranked team in the country and they play like it. Karl DeGrandpre is among the top 5 players in the country, is amazing to watch and even more fun to play against. This will be the best volleyball team to watch all weekend.

Sherbrooke is a team that relies on scrappy defence and an endless attack to wear down their opponents. Memorial will need to be on top of their offensive game and ready for everything when they take the court with this team.

All other Sea-Hawk teams have finished their fall schedules and will resume to action post Christmas.

The women's volleyball matches against CBU that were postponed due to weather, have been rescheduled to Saturday, January 7th 2:30pm and Sunday, January 8th 4:30pm. Memorial basketball will also play host to the Dalhousie Tigers on January 7-8th.
