Sea-Hawks and Huskies tangle in Halifax

(Jan. 18, 2014) The Memorial Sea-Hawks played a pair of tightly contested matches against the Saint Mary's Huskies in Halifax. The first place Huskies edged the Sea-Hawks in both matches with 9 sets of volleyball being played in total.

Jill SnowThe Saint Mary’s Huskies outlasted the Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-2 in a tightly contested five set AUS women’s volleyball match in Halifax on Saturday. Set scores were 26-28, 25-14, 24-26, 25-22, and 15-9.

 

Rachel Windhorst led the way for the Huskies with 13 kills. Anastasia Callaghan was big defensively in the win with 37 digs.

 

Jill Snow (pictured on right) had a team-high 9 kills while senior Sam March had a team-high 20 digs for Memorial. Angela Peddle and Krista Hogan had 8 kills apiece.

 

Sunday Saint Mary’s 3 Memorial 1 (boxscore)

Lauren MillerThe Saint Mary’s Huskies complete a weekend sweep with a 3-1 win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks in AUS women’s volleyball action on Sunday in Halifax. Set scores were 25-19, 26-24, 20-25, 25-20.

 

For the second straight game Rachel Windhorst led the Huskies, this time with 12 kills. Josie Leduc added 11 kills.

 

Jill Snow led Memorial with 11 kills. Sam March had 18 digs while Lauren Miller (pictured on the above right), seeing action at libero this weekend, added 13 digs. Kirsten Sorensen had 30 assists.

 

SMU improved to 8-3 and are now tied with Dalhousie for first in the AUS. Memorial fell to 3-9 on the season.

 

The Sea-Hawks will compete at home next weekend against UNB (4-6). Games will be 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Field House.
