Memorial wrestlers medal at York Open

The Memorial wrestling team competed at the York Open this weekend where Myfanwy Price took home a gold medal in the women’s 82kg weight class and Ian Janes earned a silver in the men’s 72kg weight class.

 

Myfanwy PricePrice (pictured on right) opened the meet with a dominant performance against a wrestler form York, winning 8-0. In her second match of the day she won by default over a wrestler from Queens who withdrew due to injury. In her gold medal match Price defeated a wrestler from the University of Toronto by a score of 9-2.

 

Other female finishers for Memorial were Breanne Coady, who finished sixth in the 67kg weight class and Carla Chaytor, who finished third in the field of three wrestlers who competed in the 72kg weight class.

 

On the men’s side Janes earned his silver in 72kg in a field of nine wrestlers. Janes won a tight match against Queen’s 14-6 in his first match of the day. In his second match Janes found himself up 11-7 versus a wrestler from the University of Western Ontario before securing the win with a fall.

 

In the gold medal match Janes was defeated by a wrestler from York 7-1. Steven Adams wrestled his way to a seventh place finish in a field of ten wrestlers in the 65kg weight class.

 

The Memorial wrestling team will now break for the holidays before eyeing qualification for the CIS Championship in the winter.
