Road weekend for the Sea~Hawks

This weekend featured road action in basketball, cross country and women’s volleyball with the highlights being a comeback victory for the women’s basketball team on Sunday, a solid performance by Erica Pritchett and a gutsy performance by Sean Hulburt at the 2010 CIS Cross Country Championship.

Cross Country

The CIS national cross-country championship was held in Sherbrooke Quebec this weekend. The Sea~Hawks sent top cross country runners Erica Pritchett and Sean Hulburt to compete in the event with the women running 5k and the men running 10k.

The University of Guelph continued to dominate the national cross-country scene, winning both the overall women and men’s point total. This is the sixth consecutive year the women’s cross country team for Guelph has captured the national title. For the Guelph men’s team this marks the fifth consecutive year they have won the CIS national title. Guelph’s teams had five runners each scoring points for their university.

For the women’s, the overall winner was Jessica Pearo of McMaster posting a time of 17:40. Memorial’s Erica Pritchett finished 36th overall with a time of 19:37. Memorial assistant coach Colin Fewer was impressed with Pritchett’s race. He said, “Erica has been running strong all year. For her to be the fourth AUS runner across the line is impressive.” The Gambo native was Memorial’s top performer all year. Pritchett finishes her career as a Sea~Hawks after competing for five years.
