Sea-Hawks sweep Varsity Reds

(Jan. 19. 2013) The Memorial Sea-Hawks swept a weekend series against the visiting UNB Varsity Reds in AUS women's basketball at the Field House this weekend.

Kelia PondJan. 18, 2014 (St. John’s N.L.) The Memorial Sea-Hawks handed the UNB Varsity Reds a 60-52 loss in AUS women’s basketball on Saturday night in St. John’s. Fourth year guard Kelia Pond led the Sea-Hawks in the win with a season-high 23 points.

 

Pond shot 8-18 from the field including two of three from three-point territory and 5-6 from the free throw line on her way to player of the game honours. Sandra Amoah added 11 points and 6 rebounds while Chante Clarke scored 10 off the bench for the Sea-Hawks.

 

Awo Farah led UNB with 13 points and 9 rebounds in the loss to earn player of the game for the visitors.

 

The game was Memorial’s CIS Shoot for the Cure fundraiser for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Jan. 19, 2014 (St. John’s N.L.) The Memorial Sea-Hawks defeated the UNB Varsity Reds 63-49 to earn a weekend sweep in AUS women’s basketball at the Field House Sunday. Sea-Hawks point guard Megan Robinson had a game-high 17 points to lead Memorial.

 

Rookies Chante Clarke and Sydney Stewart gave Memorial coach Doug Partridge a boost off the bench as they score 10 and 12 points respectively. Clarke was named player of the game for Memorial.

 

Laura Kaye led UNB with 12 points in the loss. Katelyn Mangold was the player of the game for the Varsity Reds with 8 points and 14 rebounds.

 

Memorial improved to 5-5 with the pair of weekend wins. The pair of four-point wins in the standings puts the Sea-Hawks in fourth place in the AUS.

 

UNB have now lost six in a row and have a record of 3-8.

 

Memorial will travel to Antigonish next weekend for a pair of games against the StFX X-Women.
