Tough weekend in Halifax for volleyball teams

Women’s Volleyball

Saturday Dalhousie 3 Memorial 0 (boxscore)

Sam MarchThe Dalhousie Tigers defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-0 in AUS women’s volleyball action at the Dalpex on Saturday night. Set scores were 25-13, 25-19. 25-17.

 

Anna Dunn led the Tigers with 10 kills while Abby Czenze added 26 assists.

 

Sam March (pictured on right) led Memorial with 6 kills and a match-high 13 digs. Kirsten Sorensen had 17 assists in the loss.

 

Players of the game were Tara Gowan for Dalhousie and March for Memorial.

 

 

Sunday Dalhousie 3 Memorial 1(boxscore)

The Dalhousie Tigers outlasted the Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-1 in a tightly contested AUS women’s volleyball match on Sunday afternoon at the Dalpex. Set scores were 17-25, 25-18, 26-24, and 25-23.

 

Desiree Nouwen led Dalhousie with 13 kills while Maggie Li added 11 kills. Nouwen added 17 digs in the win.

 

Memorial used a balanced attack in the loss. Senior Sam March and Jill Snow had a team-high 11 kills. Kirsten Sorensen had 35 assists and 9 digs for Memorial while Adrienne Penney had 7 kills and had five blocks (2 solo, 3 block assists).

 

The Sea-Hawks fell to 3-7 with the loss and are in a logjam in the middle of the AUS standings.

 

Dalhousie are now 7-4.

 

Memorial will face another challenge next weekend when the travel to Halifax to take on the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Saturday and Sunday.

 

 

Men’s Volleyball

Blake PowerThe Dalhousie Tigers beat the Memorial Sea-Hawks in straight sets in AUS men’s volleyball action in Halifax on Saturday.

 

Bryan Duquette led Dalhousie with 6 kills in the win while Jonathan MacDonald had 13 assists. Connor Maessen had 4 blocks to earn player of the game.

 

Senior middle Nathan Tilley had 9 kills for Memorial while Kendal Schmidt had 7 digs. Setter Blake Power (pictured on right) had 17 assists for the Sea-Hawks.

 

 

Sunday Dalhousie 3 Memorial 0 (boxscore)

The Dalhousie Tigers blanked the Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-0 on Sunday to claim their second victory in a weekend series at the Dalplex. The set scores were 25-18, 25-10 and 25-12.

 

Bryan Duquette again led the way for Dalhousie with 9 kills on his way to earning player of the game honours.

 

Nathan Tilley led Memorial with 6 kills and two blocks in the loss. Tilley was player of the game for Memorial.

 

Memorial fell to 0-12 with the loss while Dalhousie improved to 10-2.

 

The Sea-Hawks will see action next weekend on the road in third interlock tournament against the teams of the Quebec conference.
