Dyke golden for Memorial

(Jan. 19. 2014) The Memorial University swim team had a good showing this weekend at the Dalhousie Invitational taking home 11 medals, including 5 gold medals by impressive rookie Gavin Dyke. The Memorial men finished third overall while the women finished in fifth place. Dyke took home a gold medal in all five of his events. He claimed first in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle events.

 

Gavin DykeHe also finished atop the podium in the 200m and 400m individual medley. Dyke (pictured on right) was also part of the Memorial relay team that finished with a bronze medal in the 200m medley relay. He was joined by Ryan George, Brandon McKay and Leo Froude on the bronze medal winning team.

 

Second year backstroker David Haines earned a silver in the 100m backstroke and rookie Ryan George nabbed his first AUS medal in the 50m backstroke. Rookie Nicholas Sparkes also won a silver in the 200m butterfly.

 

Leo Froude, another talented rookie on Memorial’s roster, earned a bronze in the 400m freestyle.

 

On the women’s side rookie Becca Dyer brought home a silver in the 100m backstroke.
