Sea-Hawks compete in preseason tune-up
Oct. 5, 2013 (Montreal, Que.) The Memorial Sea-Hawks lost all three of their CIS exhibition games in a weekend trip to Montreal against some talented teams of the RSEQ and the OUA. Memorial played McGill in an exhibition game before playing Concordia and Laurier in the Nike Tournament.
Second year Memorial forward Vasilje Curcic was named to the tournament all-star team.
McGill 83 Memorial 32 (boxscore)
The Sea-Hawks opened their trip with an 83-32 loss to a talented McGill team after to travelling to Montreal that day. Thomas Lacy led the Redmen with 18 points off the bench. Caleb Gould was the top scorer for Memorial with 11 points.
Concordia 96 Memorial 64 (boxscore)
In the opening game of Concordia’s Nike Tournament the host Stingers handed Memorial a 96-64 loss. After a slow start the Sea-Hawks played much better in the second half, outscoring the Stingers 36-31 in the final twenty minutes.
Second year Vasilije Curcic (pictured on right) led Memorial with 27 points and 7 rebounds in the loss. Mukiya Post has 19 points to lead the Stingers.
Laurier 86 Memorial 64 (boxscore)
The Laurier Golden Hawks defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks 86-64 to take the consolation final of Concordia’s Nike Tournament on Saturday.
Laurier’s Will Coulthard led the winners with 17 points.
Vasilije Curcic led the Sea-Hawks with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Curcic was named a tournament all-star for his performance over the two tournament games.
Memorial coach Peter Benoite felt the trip was a good learning experience for his team.
He said, “Despite a poor start I felt we progressed and finished strong. This was an important experience in learning how to compete at this level. Now we have to build on that knowledge and get ready for our next preseason competition.”
