Sea-Hawks in UNB for weekend series

The Memorial women's basketball team extended their winning streak to five game with a pair of weekend victories over UNB. They improved to 10-8. The men's basketball lost both of their games to UNB this weekend.

 

Women's Basketball

Saturday Memorial 88 UNB 58 (boxscore)

The Memorial Sea-Hawks dominated from start to finish on Saturday night at the Currie Center, defeating the UNB Varsity Reds 88-58.

 

Emily JamesonEmily Jameson had a game-high 25 points to earn player of the game honours. Four other Sea-Hawks starters were in double figures as Grace Fishbein had 13 points, Kim Devison had 12 points, and Ally Forsey had 11 points.

 

Claire Colborne had 22 points to lead UNB.

 

Memorial head coach Doug Partridge was ejected from the game three minutes into the first quarter after receiving a double technical from the officiating crew.

 

Sunday Memorial 62 UNB 47 (boxscore)

The Sea-Hawks opened the game on a 10-0 run and didn't look back, leading from start to finish in a 62-47 victory over UNB in Fredericton Sunday.

 

Rookie Sandra Amoah led Memorial in the win with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Grace Fishbein and Emily Jameson added 13 and 10 points respectively.

 

Rachel Cleary led UNB with 8 points in the loss.

 

The win was Memorial's fifth in a row, improving their record to 10-8. The Sea-Hawks are currently fifth in the AUS. They will play UPEI (5-13) in a pair of big four-point games to close out the regular season Friday and Saturday at the Field House.

 

UNB fell to 2-16.

 

Men's Basketball

The Memorial men's basketball team fell to 1-17 after a pair of weekend losses to the UNB Varsity Reds this weekend in Fredericton.

 

Saturday UNB 80 Memorial 64

UNB defeated Memorial 80-64 in AUS men's basketball action Saturday night.

 

Jordan Irvine notched 30 points for the Varsity Reds on 11-26 shooting to lead the way. Will McFee added 11 points for UNB.

 

Caleb GouldFour Sea-Hawks were in double-figures led by Noel Maffatt with 15 points and 8 rebounds and Caleb Gould with 14 points and 8 boards.

 

The halftime score was 40-28 for UNB.

 

Sunday UNB 86 Memorial 58 (boxscore)

 

The UNB offense exploded in the third quarter to propel them to a 86-58 victory over Memorial in AUS men's basketball Sunday.

 

UNB built a eight point lead at halftime, with the score at the break 40-32.

 

The Varsity Reds dominated the third quarter 33-14 to build a commanding lead, going on to win 86-58.

 

Will McFee led UNB with 27 points in the win.

 

Vasilije Curcic led Memorial with 27 points.

 

Memorial's record is now 1-17. They will close out their season next weekend at the Field House against UPEI (11-7) on Friday and Saturday.

 

UNB improved to 6-12.
