Sea-Hawks women's basketball team in Montreal for Red Bird Classic
(Oct. 20) The Memorial women’s basketball team competed in Redbird Classic at McGill University in Montreal this weekend. The team had a win against the University of Toronto and lost to McGill and Western.
Friday McGill 62 Memorial 43
The host McGill Martlets handed the Memorial Sea-Hawks a 62-43 loss in the opener of the Redbird Classic in Montreal on Friday evening.
Mariam Sylla led the Martlets with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
Rookie Brooklyn Wright led Memorial with 9 points off the bench.
Saturday Memorial 55 UofT 49
Sandra Amoah’s 21 point effort led the Sea-Hawks to a 55-49 victory over the University Toronto in CIS exhibition women’s basketball at the Redbird Classic. Amoah (pictured on right), a second year from Toronto, also grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds.
Fellow Torontonian Chante Clarke chipped in with 9 points and 5 rebounds in the win.
Lianne Bailey led the Varsity Blues with 10 points and 10 boards.
Sunday Western 76 Memorial 69
The University of Western Ontario handed the Sea-Hawks a 76-69 loss in their final game of the Redbird Classic on Sunday.
Katelyn Leddy led the way for Western with 16 points and 18 rebounds.
Rookie guard Sydney Ezekiel (pictured on right), from St. John’s, had 16 points on a tidy 7-10 from the field to led Memorial. Kelia Pond had 12 points while rookies Lindsay Taylor and Brooklyn Wright had 10 apiece.
Memorial will open their AUS regular season at the Field House when they host Saint Mary’s on November 9th at 6 p.m.
