Memorial swim coach Brad Hutton takes on new opportunity

Brad Hutton, the coach of the Memorial Sea-Hawks swim team, has accepted an opportunity to head up the swimming program with the Camana Bay Aquatic Club in the Cayman Islands.

Brad HuttonHutton will continue to coach the Sea-Hawks until August, 2013. Hutton coached the Memorial swim team and the St. John’s Legends club team for the past six seasons. Hutton felt it was a great experience working with the Sea-Hawks.

He said, “During my time as coach I have seen a huge increase in the team atmosphere among our swimmers. This has led to improved levels of training in the pool, in cross training and in their racing confidence. These improvements have created a foundation for improved competitiveness.”

The highlight of his coaching experience was seeing the growth among his student-athletes over their time with the team.

He said, “Seeing athletes succeed at meets, in training and in their lives, following graduation, has been incredible. It was always powerful to see a rookie swimmer figure it all out and earn their place on the team with a big swim at an AUS meet. The commitment and dedication of the athletes was inspiring.”

Memorial’s director of Athletics Michelle Healey felt that Hutton made an outstanding contribution to the varsity swim team during his time as coach.

She said, “Brad worked tirelessly to create an environment that supported and challenged student-athletes to strive for personal bests, in the pool and in the classroom. During his time as coach numerous swimmers won AUS medals, set provincial records and qualified for CIS Championships. I would like to thank Brad for all of his effort and wish him, and his family, good luck in the next phase of his professional career.”
