Former basketball standout Dave Russell passes away

Former Memorial University varsity basketball standout Dave Russell passed away on Saturday. Mr. Russell was inducted in the Athletic Honour Society in 1966, the highest individual honour bestowed upon a student-athlete at Memorial. He was a standout centre for the Memorial basketball teams in the 1960s.

 

Dave RussellHis connection to the athletic program was a family affair as his four daughters, Carla, Gillian, Susan, and Meghan were all varsity soccer student-athletes. Mr. Russell had also shown his support for the Sea-Hawks as a season ticket holder for Memorial basketball and spent many years at the soccer field cheering on his daughters throughout their time at Memorial.
