Cross Country Runners Memorial University Subway Athletes of the Week

A pair of cross country runners, Matt Wakeham and Erica Pritchett, have been named the Memorial University Subway Athletes of the Week for the period ending October 3.

Erica Pritchett has earned her second consecutive Subway Athlete of the Week for her winning performance in Saturday’s MUN Run 5k. The Gambo native won the race with a time of 18:46 and was the only female runner with a sub-twenty minute race. Pritchett has been running very well and Saturday’s race was nine seconds faster than her time at the Dalhousie Invitational, where she finished eighth. Pritchett will be back on the path this Saturday as the team competes in the UNB Invitational in Fredericton.

Matt Wakeham is the Subway Athlete of the Week for his dramatic victory in Saturday’s MUN Run 5k. Wakeham, in his first year as a Sea~Hawk, surged past Kassu Gebresellasie in the final stretch to win the race by two seconds, with a time of 17:40. Wakeham was the second Sea~Hawk across the line at the Dalhousie Invitational with a time of 27:18 in the eight kilometer course. The Bay Roberts native and his teammates will be participating in the UNB Invitational this Saturday in Fredericton where they will be back at the eight-kilometer distance.
