Subway Athletes of the Week Oct. 25
Breen and Hulburt Named Subway Athletes of the Week
Soccer players Laura Breen and
cross country runner Sean Hulburt have
been named the Memorial University Subway athletes of the week for
the week ending October 25th, 2009.
Female Athlete of the
Week
Laura Breen
Team: Women’s Soccer
Major: Arts
Fifth year forward Laura Breen has been named the Subway Memorial
University female athlete of the week for her performance in the
Sea~Hawks weekend series against the UNB Varsity Reds in
Fredericton, New Brunswick. Scoring three goals in two games over
the weekend, Laura gave her team a boost offensively that it has
been looking for since the start of the 2009 season. Breen notched
her second goals of the season in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over
UNB. On Sunday she kept the momentum going scoring two more in the
Sea~Hawks 4-2 win. The three goals give her four on the season.
Breen and her teammates will look to keep their winning streak
alive when they close out their season at home this weekend against
the St. FX X-Women.
Male Athlete of the Week
Sean Hulburt
Team: Men’s Cross Country
Major: Master of Science
Sean Hulburt of the cross country running team has been named the
Subway Memorial University male athlete of the week for his race
victory at the first MUN Run 5k. The Leetunia, Ohio native was
first across the start line with a time of 16:38. Hulburt and the
other racers battled cold and windy conditions on Saturday. Making
his performance more impressive is the fact that Hulburt is
recovering from an injury that prevented him from competing until
this weekend. The cross country teams will be competing at the AUS
championships on Halloween at Saint Mary’s.
