Soccer and basketball player Memorial University Subway Athletes of the Week

Michael Brushett and Brittany Dalton are the Memorial University Athletes of the Week for the period ending October 24, 2010.

Women’s Basketball

Brittany Dalton is the Memorial University Subway female athlete of the week for her performance in the Metro Glebe Tournament at Carleton University this past weekend. Dalton was named to the tournament all-star team after leading the Sea~Hawks in scoring with 16.7 points per game in the tournament. Dalton, a native of Harbour Main, also had five rebounds and two steals per game. Though the Sea~Hawks were winless at the tournament they did give the eventual winners, Carleton, everything they could handle, losing by only four points late in the game on Sunday. Dalton and her teammates will open the season at home on Saturday, November 6th at 6 p.m. against Cape Breton University at the Field House.

Sea~Hawks men’s soccer rookie Michael Brushett is the Subway male athlete of the week for his performance in a weekend series against UPEI. With the Sea~Hawks needing two wins to stay on the inside of the AUS playoff picture with only two weeks to go Brushett and his teammates came through in the clutch. On Sunday in a 3-0 victory Brushett came up with two big goals to propel Memorial to victory. The St. John’s native now has three goals on the season. Sunday’s win gave Memorial the sweep and put them into a tie for fourth place in the AUS with UNB. Memorial has a game in hand over UNB heading into the final weekend of the season that sees the Dalhousie Tigers come to town for a two game series at King George the Vth. Game times are Saturday at 3:15pm and Sunday at 1:15pm.
