Forsey and Forbes Named Subway Athletes of the Week

Basketball player Ally Forsey and swimmer David Forbes have been named the Memorial University Subway athletes of the week for the week ending October 18th, 2009.

Sophomore post Ally Forsey is the Subway Memorial University female athlete of the week for her performance at the Naismith Classic in Waterloo, Ontario. Coming off a mediocre opening weekend against Laruentian, Forsey stepped up her game scoring 12 points in the team’s opening game against Concordia University. On Saturday, Forsey was true to her 2008/09 AUS Rookie of the Year form, recording a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and adding 3 blocks in a victory over the University of Waterloo Warriors. With her hard work in the post, the Sea~Hawks returned home as tournament champions after winning their final game against Fraser Valley University on Sunday, in which Forsey once again led the way with 17 points.

Sophomore swimmer David Forbes is the Subway Memorial University male athlete of the week for his winning efforts in the pool as part of the Sea~Hawks dual meet with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday night. Coming off a record setting year in 2008-09 that saw him bring home the AUS Rookie of the Year, Forbes was back at it in the pool placing first in the 50m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, and second in the 50m Butterfly. Forbes added to his individual success touching the wall first with the 4x50m Freestyle team relay. Saturday night Forbes showed he is ready to make a run this year just narrowly missing a CIS qualifying time in the 50m Freestyle by 0.22 seconds.
