Female Athlete of the
Week
Grace Fishbein
Team: Women’s Basketball
Major: Math / Physics
Grace Fishbein is this week’s Memorial University Subway
female athlete of the week for her performance in the Sea~Hawks AUS
opening weekend sweep of Acadia. On Saturday in the home opening
87-86 win, Fishbein led the Sea~Hawks with 21 points. She shot
efficiently in the game, making good on 7 of 8 from the field,
including a three pointer, while knocking down 6 of 7 from the free
throw line. The Waterloo native also showed her versatility with 6
rebounds and a team-high 7 assists in the game. On Sunday, Fishbein
did not take as many shots but continued to make an impact with a
game-high 8 assists to go with 7 boards and 6 points. Fishbein and
the Sea~Hawks could get a look in at the national rankings this
week after the series sweep.
Male Athlete of the Week
Steven Earles
Team: Men’s Basketball
Major: Business
Steven Earles is the Memorial University Subway male athlete of the
week for his monster performance in the opening weekend series
against Acadia at the Field House. The 6’6 sophomore center
wasted no time making an impact in Saturday night’s opener,
breaking free for a big two-handed slam in the first quarter.
Earles was aggressive on offence all night, earning 16 trips to the
free throw line, making good on an impressive 14 attempts. He was
the game’s top scorer in the 93-80 loss with a career high 26
points despite being limited to 28 minutes of court time due to
foul trouble. On Sunday Earles and his teammates came out hot,
earning a 19 point halftime lead. Though ultimately Acadia would
ruin the day with a heartbreaking last second victory, Earles
continued his dominance with 17 points and 7 rebounds in the game.
The Sea~Hawks will surely be disappointed with the win slipping
away, but they must be encouraged by the performance of the big
center from St. John’s.
