Grace Fishbein and Jason Shepherd are the Memorial University Athletes of the Week for the period ending November 8, 2010.

Grace Fishbein

Women’s Basketball

Year: 3

Major: Math/Physics

Grace Fishbein is the Memorial University Subway Athlete of the Week for her performance during a season-opening series split against the Cape Breton Capers at the Field House last weekend. On Saturday in front of a sold out crowd Fishbein had a game-high 22 points in an 80-64 Memorial win. Fishbein made her contribution throughout the game with 11 points in each half. She was also second on the team in rebounds with 8. On Sunday Fishbein had a career-high 26 points in the Sea~Hawks 64-56 loss to the Capers. The Waterloo, Ontario native added 8 rebounds, including 6 on the offensive glass. The Sea~Hawks will now travel to Fredericton for a weekend series against the UNB Varsity Reds.

Jason Shepherd

Men’s Basketball

Year: 4

Major: Kinesiology

Jason Shepherd is the Memorial University Subway Athlete of the Week for his performance in a weekend series against the Cape Breton Capers. Shepherd had a game-high 25 points, including 15 in the first half, in Saturday night’s season opener. The team captain added 5 rebounds and 5 assists while playing aggressive defense against the larger Cape Breton forwards. On Sunday the native of Black Rock, Nova Scotia contributed 18 points and 5 assists. The Sea~Hawks will be looking for positive results when they travel to UNB to take on the Varsity Reds this weekend.
