Basketball players named Memorial University Subway Athletes of the Week

Jason Shepherd and Robyn O’Rielly are the Memorial University Athletes of the Week for the period ending January 9, 2011.

Robyn O’Rielly is the Subway Athlete of the Week for her performance in the Sea-Hawks in a weekend series against UNB in AUS basketball. Despite losing both games to the Varsity Reds, O’Rielly gave the Sea~Hawks a major offensive spark off the bench this weekend. The fourth year from Witless Bay hit 9 three-pointers on the weekend including 6 of 9 from three-point land on Sunday. The six threes gave her 18 points off the bench in 25 minutes of court time.

Men’s Basketball

Major: Kinesiology

Jason Shepherd came up with his best game of the season for the Sea~Hawks in Sunday’s 100-95 victory over UNB. The Black Rock, Nova Scotia native had 30 points and 7 assists to lead the Sea~Hawks to victory. Shepherd only missed three of seventeen shots in the game and only committed one turnover. He shot 11 of 14 from the floor including 5 of 6 from three-point distance while making good on all three of his free throws. For his performance Shepherd is this week’s Subway Athlete of the Week.
