Jason Shepherd and Erin Bursey named the Subway Athletes of the Week for the week of January 10th.

Jason Shepherd
Men's Basketball
Year: 5
Major: Physical Education
5th year veteran Jason Shepherd was Memorial's top performer in two games against the Dalhousie Tigers to open the 2nd half of the Sea-Hawks schedule. In Saturday's game, Shepherd led the way offensively with 29 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds in a 76-89 loss to the Tigers. On Sunday, Shepherd was again Memorial's best player, earning Player of the Game honours on consecutive nights. In Sunday's 82-92 loss, Shepherd scored 19 points, had 7 rebounds and 7 assists.

Erin Bursey
Women's Volleyball
Year: 4
Major: Psychology
The Sea-Hawks Women's Volleyball team picked up two huge wins over the Cape Breton Capers this weekend, with a 3-0 match win on Saturday and a tightly contested five match win on Sunday. On Saturday, Bursey played a sizeable role in the win with 11 kills and 4 service aces. On Sunday, the Capers went on the attack early and looked as if they might take a match win in quick sets, as the first set was 25-16 in favour of the Capers. Team leader and captain Erin Bursey rallied her teammates and challenged them to be better, constantly encouraging them and communicating throughout the match. It was that passion and competitive fire that helped the team hold off the strong attack of the Capers, giving Memorial two huge match wins as they begin their run to secure a playoff spot. In Sunday's match-up Bursey had 12 kills and 25 digs and was named Player of the Match.
