David Haines is the Memorial University male athlete of the week following a standout performance at the 2016 AUS Swimming Championships this past weekend in Halifax, NS.

Haines (Conception Bay, NL) finished the weekend with four bronze medals and will represent Memorial at the 2016 CIS Swimming Championships later this month in Quebec City. 

The fourth year student and team captain played an essential part in the team winning second place in men's team at the AUS Swimming championships. Haines had outstanding performances and achieved the CIS qualifying time in 100m Backstroke, becoming the second swimmer from the team to qualify and also achieved a Swim Canada Senior National qualifying standard in the same event. Haines won 2 bronze medals, the first in 50m Backstroke and 2nd in the 400m Free Relay. He gained 4 bronze medals for the team in, 100m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke, the 800m Free Relay and 400 Medley Relay. Finally he also scored points in the 400 free where he placed 5th.
