Swimmers make a splash at AUS

(Feb. 7, 2010) The Memorial Sea~Hawks were on the road this weekend in swimming, women’s volleyball and women’s basketball. The swimmers avoided any travel delays on their way to PEI for the AUS championship where they set a number of provincial records. Weather plays havoc with weekend schedule

(Feb. 6, 2010) The winter blizzard in Newfoundland this weekend has forced rescheduling of the Sea~Hawks women's basketball and volleyball games. The women's basketball team will now play at Acadia on Sunday and Monday with both games being played at 2 p.m. while the women's volleyball team will play at St. FX on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. and on Monday morning at 11 a.m.

Subway Athletes of the Week

(Feb 1, 2010) Volleyball player Erin Bursey and wrestler Robbie Zadra have been named the Subway Athletes of the Week. Bursey was big on the attack for the women's volleyball team despite two losses to UNB while Zadra wrestled his way to a silver medal in the 76 kg weight class at the Eastern Canadian Jr. Wrestling Championship in Fredericton this past weekend. Molson Weekend Summary

(Jan. 31, 2010) This weekend the Memorial Sea~Hawks were in action in wrestling, volleyball and wrestling. A contingent of six male wrestlers performed well in the UNB Open in Fredericton with Matt Kippenhuck and Robbie Zadra getting to the podium. The volleyball teams finished their home schedule with a weekend series against the UNB Varsity Reds with neither team able to pick up a win despite some spirited play at the Field House. Second half woes continue for Sea~Hawks

(Jan. 10, 2010) The Memorial Sea~Hawks men's basketball looked sharp through the first half against the third ranked X-Men, but in the second half the X-Men kept up the full court pressure on their way to a 97-67 victory. The halftime score was 35-34 X-Men. Christian Upshaw led St. FX with 17 points while Jason Shepherd and rookie Justin Grainger each had 16 points for the Sea~Hawks.
 

Sea~Hawks take opening game against X-Women

(Jan. 10, 2010) The Sea~Hawks used tough team defense to defeat the St. FX X-Women in convincing fashion, 69-51, Sunday evening at the Field House. The Sea~Hawks were led by Vicki Thistle and Erin Mulalley, who both contributed a game-high 18 points apiece. St. FX had difficulty from the field throughout, shooting only 29.2% during the game. The teams will be back on the court on Monday morning, for an unusual Monday matinee with an 11 a.m. start time due to the Saturday flight delay.

 

Sea~Hawks drop a close one to Moncton

(Jan. 9, 2010) The women's volleyball team battled the Universite de Moncton in the second match of a weekend home series, losing 3-1 in a tightly contested matchup. Three of the four sets were decided by two points, and in the other the differential was only three points. Moncton, led by HITS FM Player of the Game Kim Roy, managed to get timely points in the match with set scores of 25-22, 25-23, 26-28, 27-25. Memorial showed their grit in winning the third set but could not come with the key points to push them over the top. Adrienne Penney was the HITS FM Player of the Game for Memorial.
 

Volleyball team open 2010 with home victory

(Jan. 8, 2010) The women’s volleyball opened 2010 with a win in front of the home crowd at the Field House. The Sea~Hawks played a back and forth match with the Universite de Moncton, but gained momentum late the first set to gain a quick two set advantage, on their way to a 3-1 victory. Rogers becomes first female swimmer to qualify for CIS Championship since 2005

(Dec. 14, 2009) Kelsie Rogers has qualified for the CIS Championships, swimming a 50m freestlye in 27.87 at the St. John's Legends vs. Mount Pearl Marlins Dual Meet. Rogers, who was recently named the St. John's Athlete of the Month, was a tenth of a second under the 27.97 standard. Rogers is first Memorial swimmer to qualify since Ainsley Decker and Gwen Evans qualified in 2005. The CIS Championships will take place February 18-20 in Toronto.
